High-quality two-way bookshelf speakers with three drivers, including a 25-centimetre woofer. Manufactured in the USA in the late 1960s. Pneumatic
suspension in a sealed enclosure. Rear selector switch for listening mode (normal, low, high). Both screw terminals and RCA connectors. Aluminium alloy woofer basket. Suspension, as well as the dust cap, made from treated fabric. Virtually indestructible. It is no coincidence that Realistic offered a lifetime warranty on this product.
The Realistic Optimus 1 loudspeaker was introduced in 1968. The two-way system features three drivers: a 10-inch woofer with a cast frame and treated fabric covering, and two cone tweeters. The acoustic suspension system was finished with oiled walnut veneer and tweed fabric grilles, giving them a look very similar to the KLH 6 or 17. The 10-inch woofer delivers detailed bass with great resonance and visceral impact. The bass is warm and not boomy. Vocals exhibit good midrange clarity and instruments sound natural, without undue electronic glare. Transparency and detail are average for a speaker of this vintage.
