Technics SL P990, CD player. Manufactured in 1988. A heavyweight at 12 kg. Comes with a copy of the user manual in English and a remote control.

Description

This solid, robust machine will impress you not only with its design but also with its sound quality.

This 12 kg behemoth is capable of delivering remarkable performance, thanks in part to a high-quality laser mechanism with a magnetic sled-based cartridge movement system. What does this mean? Typically, on CD players, the read head is moved by a small motor and associated gears. Whilst precise, this system is much slower when moving from the start of a track to the end. The magnetic sled not only prevents wear and tear on mechanical parts such as the gears, but also delivers greater precision and a surprisingly fast response to commands.

The 18-bit digital-to-analogue conversion section is handled by no fewer than four Burr-Brown PCM56P J-version DACs. There is a digital output filter with 4x oversampling. Each DAC handles the positive or negative half-wave of each channel to eliminate cross-over distortion. The output stage is built using Class AA circuitry to ensure high resolution in the mid-to-high range and low distortion.

The power supplies are strictly separated right from the transformers: one for the digital section and one for the analogue section.

In addition to the classic analogue output via RCA connectors (gold-plated in this case), the player is equipped with an optical and coaxial digital output to allow you to interface it with your favourite DAC.

The unit is in full working order and also plays burned discs. It is
in excellent cosmetic condition.

It comes with a EUR64785 remote control, which is not specific to this model but is essential for controlling the main functions remotely. Also included is a copy of the user manual in English.
