Description

I certainly don’t need to introduce Nakamichi to you; it is one of the best-known brands among audiophiles, having become a fixture in the history of hi-fi. It is precisely within this context that this model fits; whilst it may appear to be an ordinary CD player, it represented a pioneering approach to the storage and management of compact discs. The unit was in fact capable of holding as many as six discs inside, in addition to the one being played, thanks to the Musicbank System, a Nakamichi patent that allowed access to the discs without having to use the usual removable trays, offering operation similar to that of a single-disc player but with significantly greater capacity.

The build quality was exceptional, with top-tier components ensuring a brilliant sound, a quality that helped cement the brand’s prestige in those years. The top-of-the-range model, the CD Player 1, differed from this one only in a few details and also served as the basis for the infamous McIntosh MCD 7008; it was essentially the same unit but given a more stylish finish by McIntosh to match the American manufacturer’s other components, and was naturally priced significantly higher.
Technically, this player was equipped with an eight-fold oversampling conversion stage, equivalent to a sampling rate of 352.8 kHz, and utilised a dual 20-bit Burr Brown PCM 1700P converter, a high-end solution for the time.

The unit on sale is a collector’s item in excellent cosmetic condition and also plays burned CDs.
