The Denon DP-2700 was a direct-drive turntable designed to deliver high-quality audio performance and musical reproduction characterised by the utmost precision. Manufactured by Denon, one of the most renowned brands on the international audio scene, this model was launched at a time when Japanese engineering was striving to set ever-stricter standards in terms of rotational stability, vibration control and overall build quality. The DP-2700 was a high-end offering designed to satisfy the most demanding vinyl enthusiasts, seeking faithful, distortion-free reproduction, at a time when direct-drive technology had reached full technical maturity.
The Denon DP-2700’s direct-drive system ensured stable and precise platter rotation, helping to minimise vibrations and speed irregularities. This technical solution prevented the skidding and misalignment typical of other systems, proving particularly effective in maintaining consistent playback parameters even at the highest speeds. The die-cast aluminium platter, finished to a high standard, ensured smooth and balanced rotation, a fundamental element for accurate and consistent music reproduction.
The motor, designed to operate with reduced vibration, helped preserve the clarity of the analogue signal, enabling a clean and detailed sound reproduction. Electronic speed control allowed for constant and precise rotation, ensuring strict control of playback speed across the entire frequency range. The tonearm was also designed to ensure accurate tracking of the groove, reducing wear on the record and allowing musical nuances to be captured with great fidelity.
From a design perspective, the Denon DP-2700 featured a dual-chassis damped structure, with a die-cast aluminium base for the platter and a separate wooden section for the tonearm. This configuration was designed to minimise vibrations and resonance, reflecting Denon’s characteristic focus in those years on the mechanical separation of critical functions. The overall design of the DP-2700 was elegant and understated, with clean lines and high-quality materials, designed to blend naturally into refined home environments and to convey a sense of solidity and prestige.
The Denon DP-2700 turntable was built to last, thanks to its high build quality and the use of robust materials, characteristics that have ensured its preservation and maintained its appeal to collectors over the years. This is a substantial piece of equipment in terms of both size and weight, measuring a full 51 cm in width and weighing over 12 kg – figures that attest to the solid, uncompromising build typical of high-end models of the era.
The unit for sale comes complete with a shell and an Audio-Technica AT 3600L cartridge already fitted. This cartridge is intended for checking that the unit is working correctly and for initial listening sessions; however, from a collector’s perspective or for personal enjoyment, we recommend upgrading to a cartridge of your choice. The dust cover is new, made by a company specialising in plexiglass work.
