Description

Victor, the well-known Japanese company known in the Western market as JVC (Japan Victor Company), launched this QL Y3F in 1981, a model boasting exceptional aesthetic and functional features, at a time of rapid technological evolution in the mid-to-high-end turntable sector. In those years, Japanese engineering research focused on the integration of electronic automation and mechanical precision, and this turntable represented one of the most significant examples of that design philosophy. It was, in fact, a turntable that combined an electronically controlled tonearm and a fully automatic mechanism with quartz control, solutions which, at the time, demonstrated the level of innovation achieved by the Japanese manufacturer.

All you had to do was select the record speed (33 or 45 rpm) and its size (30 or 17 cm) and press start. The auto-swinging tonearm would automatically position itself at the correct point to begin playback. The repeat button allowed the track to be played an infinite number of times, a feature that in the 1980s was one of the most appreciated characteristics of fully automatic systems.

From a technical point of view, the design featured a platter driven by a coreless DD motor with dual servo and quartz control, a configuration that at the time allowed for particularly stable and accurate rotation. The electronic tonearm employed a drive system controlled by a linear motor positioned directly beneath the tonearm’s axis, eliminating the need for belts that wear out. The movement was therefore smooth and noise-free, but above all had no effect on the stability of the tonearm as it was completely independent. The lift mechanism was also fully automatic and electronic, confirming the high degree of automation that characterised this model.

The turntable has been fully refurbished and is in excellent condition.
