The TKS MT 301 is a manual direct-drive turntable with a quartz-controlled motor. Manufactured by the Italian company Teksonor in 1982, it was designed for the most discerning Hi-Fi enthusiasts and combines an elegant design with advanced technical features, offering a superior listening experience. The models in the TKS MT range are crafted from high-quality wood veneers and were available in a black finish or in the natural colour of the wood. This gives the turntable an elegant and refined appearance, allowing it to blend seamlessly into any home environment.
Design and Construction
The wooden plinth consists of four glued layers to minimise the effects of sound vibrations as much as possible. Furthermore, it is weighted down with approximately 1.5 kg of inert material for a dual purpose: to reduce acoustic feedback and to distribute the turntable’s total weight evenly across the four feet; This model, like all others in the MT series, is fitted with special adjustable damping feet that ensure the turntable is level, by adjusting the height and damping vibrations. The platter, die-cast from a special aluminium alloy, has a diameter of 320 mm and weighs approximately 1.5 kg.
The cover is made from high-quality acrylic, protecting the turntable from dust and other external agents.
It is equipped with an SME 3009 MKIII Series 3 tonearm, a state-of-the-art independent tonearm, the result of over seven years of research and development. This model introduces a series of significant innovations and evolutionary improvements over its illustrious predecessor. Among the most significant innovations, the nitrogen-hardened titanium tubes have a wall thickness approximately double the average diameter of a human hair, offering a strength-to-weight ratio never before achieved. The tonearm features a soft core and an internal fibre lining, which ensure natural damping of vibrations transmitted by the cartridge. The ‘S’ models were a simplified version, lacking the expensive rack-and-pinion adjustment, with fluid damping available as an option. Subsequently, the tonearm tubes were modified with a geometry optimised for use with 12-inch records.
This model comes fitted with a Shure V15 Type III cartridge.
In conclusion, the Teksonor MT 301 represents a piece of Italian hi-fi history, combining solid construction with high-level sound performance. For vinyl enthusiasts and collectors, this turntable offers an authentic and immersive listening experience.
