Pioneer D-HS5, DAT recorder, manufactured in 1994. Comes complete with a Tascam RC D20 remote control and an Italian-language user manual for the D 05 model on CD.

Description

The Pioneer DHS5 is a DAT (Digital Audio Tape) digital tape recorder manufactured by Pioneer Corporation from 1994 to 1997.

A high-end device, designed for high-quality DAT recordings. It features analogue and digital inputs and outputs, including optical and coaxial connections.

Its main features are:

Wide Range mode (96 kHz sampling)
in addition to Standard Play (SP) and Long Play (LP) modes. Wide Range (WIDE) mode was incorporated to enable the recording (analogue input only) and playback of high frequencies exceeding 40 kHz by operating the LSI signal processor, the capstan motor and the drum motor at twice the speed of SP mode. The recording time in WIDE mode is halved, but continuous wide-range recording of 1 hour is still possible using a 120-minute tape. Legato

Link
Conversion Legato Link Conversion, available in Standard Play (SP) and Long Play (LP) modes, allows signals to be reproduced beyond the conventional limits of their formats. Legato Link Conversion reproduces music with a quality closer to the original sound by taking the original signal prior to recording from the recorded signal.
High-speed AI (Artificial

Intelligence) SearchTo reduce search time during direct track selection or programmed playback, AI Search reads the subcodes recorded on the tape to learn track numbers and track start positions, and searches for tracks using this data at a speed up to 300 times faster than conventional search speeds.

SCMS (Serial Copy Management System)
SCMS enables the digital copying of digital signals from original copyright-protected digital sources. The digital signal can only be copied once, and no further digital copies can be made from the copied tape.

Long Play
modeLong Play (LP) mode allows you to record input programme sources in the form of analogue signals for twice the duration possible in Standard Play (SP) mode (up to 4 hours). Programme sources input in the form of digital signals can also be recorded in LP mode provided their sampling frequency is 32 kHz.Subcode
Application

FunctionsSubcodes containing various types of time information, start-IDs to indicate the start of tracks, skip-IDs useful for cutting out unwanted sections, track number data and end marks to indicate the end of programmes can be freely recorded and deleted. Furthermore, it is possible to record TOC (Table of Contents) data for tape editing and library organisation, and Al search is also performed using this TOC data.

Character
Packet Function This unit incorporates the function for recording and playback (display) of character data as defined by the DAT format. This function allows for the additional recording of a character data packet of up to 60 characters, including the track name, artist name and memo at the start (on the start ID) of each track. When this unit reads the character data during tape playback, it automatically displays the data on the counter display (scrolling from right to left). The read data is stored in the microcomputer file so that it can be displayed again at the press of a button.

IMPROVED FEATURES:
Start-ID recording synchronised with Q codes When
recording the digital input signal from a Compact Disc, this unit reads the Q codes recorded on the CD so that the start ID can be recorded accurately even when there is no gap before the track. As this function is designed to be activated automatically when the microcomputer determines that the programme source component is a CD player, no special operation is required to use it.

Last memory
functionThe ON/OFF setting for AUTO ID and the input selector (INPUT) setting prior to power-off remain stored even after the power is cut off.

High-quality sound
circuitHigh sound quality is achieved through the 1-bit pulse-stream D/A converter, the 1-bit wide-range linear A/D converter, and the clean clock circuit that reduces clock signal jitter in the time domain.Comprehensive

anti-resonance designIn pursuit of a vibration- and resonance-free design concept, the chassis utilises a highly rigid honeycomb frame. The drive mechanism is positioned centrally to minimise vibrations and resonance through improved weight balance. The tape is held in place by a unique cassette stabiliser to prevent sound degradation caused by vibrations and resonance, ensuring pure sound reproduction.

The unit offered is refurbished and fully functional. The front panel is in good cosmetic condition, but the top cover is damaged. Please see the actual photos of the item for further details.

The remote control is the Pioneer equivalent, rebranded as Tascam.
