Description

The Denon DP-6000 is a motor-only turntable, embodying the finest Japanese tradition in the design of professional turntables. This model stood at the pinnacle of the Denon range and was designed to meet the needs of small radio stations and other professional environments where reliability, robust construction and engineering quality were essential requirements. The DP-6000 was developed as a high-end motor platform, designed for demanding and continuous applications where operational precision was of paramount importance.

The rotational speed accuracy was stated as 99.998%, a result achieved thanks to a phase control system based on a quartz oscillator. Rotational speed was highly stabilised by a timer based on the oscillation of a quartz crystal, which is notoriously stable against temperature variations and the passage of time. Using the phase-locked loop method, the speed was largely unaffected by the applied load or fluctuations in the supply voltage, ensuring extremely consistent performance even under critical operating conditions.

The design also included a DC electric brake, engineered to ensure smoother operation. The acceleration servo function and the DC electric brake were controlled based on speed detection data, enabling smooth and controlled transitions during speed changes, start-up and stop phases, as well as during continuous operation.

For this model, Denon had developed its own original motor control system based on magnetic recording for speed and phase detection. A thousand pulses were recorded with high precision, allowing for a very high detection frequency, sufficient to effectively compensate for the phase delay of the servo system and significantly reduce wow and flutter values.

Performance in terms of signal-to-noise ratio, wow and flutter was further improved by the adoption of an AC motor. The introduction of pulse-width modulation for motor control allowed for a cleaner drive current to be applied, with tangible benefits for overall performance and a simultaneous reduction in energy consumption, confirming the design attention typical of Denon’s high-end production.

To connect to the European mains supply, this turntable required an external transformer, which was not included but could be supplied on request.
