Description

The Sony EQ-2 is a compact phono preamplifier designed for MM (Moving Magnet) cartridges, ideal for connecting a turntable to the line inputs of amplifiers that lack a dedicated phono input. It is particularly valued for its portability and ease of use, and offers a practical solution when you wish to integrate a turntable into a modern system without a phono stage.

Signals from a turntable are very weak and feature an RIAA equalisation curve that needs to be corrected. The Sony EQ-2 amplifies the phono signal to line level, which is necessary to process it via an AUX, TAPE or similar input, and equalises the signal according to the RIAA curve, restoring the frequencies to a natural response. This allows vintage or entry-level turntables to be used on modern, portable or mini hi-fi systems without a phono input, whilst maintaining a setup consistent with the technical standards of the analogue sector.
