The Tascam 112R is a cassette player and recorder designed for professional use but which is also well suited to home use. Tascam, as is well known, is the professional division of Teac, a Japanese brand that has made history in the reel-to-reel and cassette recorder sector.
This is a professional-grade cassette player and recorder, built to last. It
is extremely robust (weighing over 6 kg) and has a striking appearance. It is a typical front-loading cassette deck with the cassette compartment located on the left-hand side of the unit. Tape ejection is mechanically operated and the cassette must be positioned with the side to be played facing forwards in the cassette compartment.
Fully servo-controlled, it features track search, Dolby B and C, three heads and three separate motors for movement and drive, and all the functions you would expect to find on a cassette deck.
The level meters used on the 112R are generic digital peak meters. The full-logic transport controls used on the 112R respond to the slightest touch of the fingers, allowing for quick and effortless selection of transport functions. Playback speed can be adjusted using the pitch control. Cue and review functions can be used to easily and quickly locate the start of a passage.
The Dolby C type used in the 112R provides 20 dB of noise reduction above approximately 1,000 Hz, effectively doubling the amount provided by the B type.
Like all 3-head recorders, it allows real-time monitoring of the recording and thus calibration of the input levels. It is one of the very few units of this type to be equipped with autoreverse, thus allowing playback and recording with monitoring in both directions.
For live recording, this deck features 2 microphone inputs for connecting microphones via a jack plug. For undisturbed listening, a jack plug is provided for a pair of stereo headphones. Connection to other audio components for playback can be made via an RCA cable, and recording from a source via an RCA cable. All main transport controls can be operated remotely using a wired remote control (not supplied).
