Pioneer CT 6 – cassette recorder

This is a highly respectable twin-tape deck. Manufactured in Japan in the mid-1970s, the golden age of Japanese hi-fi.

It is aesthetically very appealing with its brushed aluminium front panel and two large backlit VU meters. The cassette compartment is also backlit, allowing you to check the tape’s position even in the dark.

The main features of the Pioneer CT-6 are: 2 heads, a 3-digit mechanical tape counter with memory stop, manual tape type selection (compatible with standard, chrome and ferrochrome tapes – automatic for chrome tapes), and a single capstan with belt drive.

A typical front-loading cassette recorder with the cassette compartment located on the left-hand side of the unit. Tape ejection is mechanically operated, and the cassette must be inserted with the side to be played facing forwards into the cassette compartment.

The level meters used on the CT-6 are analogue needle-type VU meters. Mechanical transport controls for reliable selection of the transport function.

The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the CT-6 by up to 10 dB at higher frequencies.

For live recording, this deck features 2 microphone inputs for connecting microphones via a jack connector. A jack socket for a pair of stereo headphones is provided for undisturbed listening. Connection to other audio components for playback can be made via an RCA cable, and recording from a source via an RCA cable.
