Description

The Pioneer CT-520, launched in 1981, represents a significant milestone in the history of cassette decks, embodying the Japanese design philosophy of the early 1980s. Designed with the aim of combining reliability and aesthetic appeal, this machine captures the spirit of an era when home hi-fi was experiencing one of its most creative periods. Compact and robust, the CT-520 stood out for its tried-and-tested mechanics, which guaranteed precision and stability, marking one of the cornerstones of Pioneer’s production during those years.

The model adopted a traditional configuration with a single-motor drive and direct-drive capstan, whilst the dual-cartridge system highlighted its rational design. The brushed aluminium front panel, enhanced by the soft lighting of the Blue Line series VU-meters and main functions, still conveys the atmosphere of the hi-fi racks that filled the homes of enthusiasts during the golden age of analogue.

Compatibility with Normal, Chromatic and Metal tapes, the adoption of the Dolby B system for noise reduction, the Auto Tape Selector function, bias and recording level control, together with the full logic control, bear witness to the technological level achieved by Pioneer in those years, when attention to detail was an integral part of the design.

The unit offered here, having been carefully refurbished, retains its original charm and is in good condition, with all the aesthetic character that makes it an ideal collector’s item for those wishing to own an authentic piece of Japanese hi-fi history.
