Description

Produced in the late 1970s, this cassette deck struck a perfect balance between analogue engineering and affordability. It was a dual-head model with a 4-track system and two stereo channels, designed to ensure a clean, balanced sound during both recording and playback. The electronically controlled DC motor ensured stable and precise rotation, whilst Dolby B noise reduction helped improve dynamics and reduce background hiss, bringing the signal-to-noise ratio to around 64 dB.

With a frequency response ranging from 30 Hz to 16 kHz (when using chrome tapes), this deck offered impressive performance for its time, accompanied by low harmonic distortion and excellent speed stability, with a wow and flutter of just 0.05%.

The internal construction utilised 24 transistors, 13 diodes and 2 integrated circuits, a testament to the design precision typical of Japanese manufacturers in the late 1970s. The unit supported Type I, FeCr and CrO₂ tapes, allowing collectors to explore different types of magnetic media in keeping with the tradition of vintage audio.

Today more than ever, the appeal of cassette tapes is enjoying a surprising resurgence: more and more enthusiasts are rediscovering their analogue magic, and well-known international companies have already announced the resumption of production of new cassette tapes, a concrete sign of renewed interest in this historic format.
It is true that, from a technical point of view, the cassette cannot compete with the perfection and dynamic range of later formats such as the Compact Disc or high-resolution digital audio. However, its value lies not only in sound quality, but in the overall experience it offers: the cassette is a pleasure to hold, easy to use, immediate and authentic.
Every crackle, every imperfection helps to create that emotional connection that no modern medium can replicate.
